The portal kimi-aliveri-papanikolaou.gr is an initiative of the Municipality of Kymi – Aliveri, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the life and work of Georgios Papanikolaou, the eminent scientist whose invention of the Pap test fundamentally transformed global medical history, saving millions of lives.
The digital platform hosts a rich collection of historical and archival material, including photographs, documents, and testimonies that illuminate Papanikolaou’s personality and international recognition, while also highlighting the Municipality’s contribution to preserving his memory and legacy.
In parallel, through historical references, it documents the decisive role of the region in the Greek War of Independence of 1821, showcasing Kymi and Aliveri as key landmarks of national history.
For the implementation of the action “Cultural Digital Infrastructure for the Management of Historical Content and the Promotion of G. Papanikolaou as the Most Distinguished Personality of the Municipality of Kymi-Aliveri”, the Municipality of Kymi-Aliveri utilized resources from the Antonis Tritsis Program for Local Government Development and Solidarity.
