Message from the Mayor of Kymi–Aliveri
The Municipality of Kymi–Aliveri honors perhaps the most prominent scientist from our region — Georgios Papanikolaou — through an innovative project of cultural and digital infrastructure, funded under the “Antonis Tritsis” program. With this project, we leverage modern technologies not only to preserve and highlight our historical heritage but also to offer our citizens and visitors a comprehensive digital experience of knowledge, memory and culture.
The project is implemented through three main actions:
Action A: Development of a digital platform for managing the municipality’s cultural and historical content, featuring online access, documentation and interaction capabilities, as well as the creation of a specialized content management application.
Action B: Digital mapping and virtual reconstruction of key historical infrastructures in the municipality and sites related to Dr. Papanikolaou, using LiDAR technology, 360° photogrammetry, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and virtual reality (VR) tours.
Action C: Production of a series of short documentaries highlighting the life and work of the great scientist, curated with artistic care and historical accuracy, to serve as valuable educational and cultural material for younger generations.
The total budget for this project is €134,540 and it is funded by the “Antonis Tritsis” program. This initiative goes beyond the local scope of a single municipality. It is a digital bridge connecting history with the future, science with culture and local identity with the international legacy of Georgios Papanikolaou. A project of memory, education and pride.
With respect for history and a sense of responsibility toward future generations, we move forward with determination in the digital transformation of our cultural identity.
Nikolaos Barakos
Mayor of Kymi–Aliveri
