On Sunday, June 29, 2025, a meeting and briefing took place at the under-construction Georgios Papanikolaou Museum in Kymi, given by the project contractors, Mrs. Iliana Zioga and Mr. Athanasios Athanasias.
The presentation was held in the presence of the Mayor of Kymi-Aliveri and President of the Papanikolaou Institute, Mr. Nikos Barakos, the Vice President of the Institute, Mr. Panagiotis Angelopoulos, the Deputy Mayor of Kymi, Mr. Argyris Pafras, and the President of Kymi, Mr. Antonis Roussos.
At the heart of the meeting was the completion of a particularly significant phase of the works: the finishing of the building’s new roof. Specifically, the previous material (melamine) was replaced with wooden coffered panels, a choice that respects and highlights the traditional architecture of Kymi.
This intervention substantially contributes to restoring the authenticity of the historic building, bringing it closer to its original form while preserving the architectural identity of the area.
The works continue with respect for the historical and cultural heritage of the region, with the goal of creating a modern, functional and high-standard museum dedicated to the memory and contribution of the great scientist Georgios Papanikolaou.
